AVI & CELIA
March 2007
Avi J. Salloway and Celia J. Woods-Smith met several years ago by chance as electric guitar riffs drifted through a window out onto a college quad. They started small but found an overwhelming response in their favor so they officially formed, creating the sum of their parts, Avi & Celia. Their music is derived from rock, folk, bluegrass, and blues traditions, which permeate into their original music.
Individually, Avi & Celia have been playing, writing, and exploring with music for the better half of their lives. They have been performing and composing music together for three years now, playing at a variety of venues all over Vermont, Rhode Island, New York, and Massachusetts. Playing rousing original music has landed them high profile gigs supporting such acts as rock hero, Leon Russell and the legendary Big Brother & The Holding Company.
After performing professionally for over three years, they created a demand for a record. The product of many hours in a Burlington Studio has become, "Off the Floor," a fully-loaded EP of their boundary fusing music. Usually performing as a duo, select tracks of these recordings are supported by a handful of excellent instrumentalists, including The Walkin’ Line, a roots-bluegrass band they often perform with. The two are nearing the completion of their degrees at the University of Vermont, but upon graduation in 2007 will be touring nationally in promotion of Off the Floor. Their music is soulful and insightful and above all speaks for itself.
