Seven Days Hot Ticket
Meat Puppets' early albums applied punk's loud, fast energy and a free-spirited sense of experimentalism to an ever-evolving mix of bluesy hard rock, high-lonesome twang and homespun psychedelia. Over the years, the band's sound has matured to downplayed, mid-tempo, gently psychedelic Americana. The threesome deliveres it's eclectic iconoclasm with an increasingly sophisticated level of instrumental interplay, highlighted by Curt's inventive guitar runs and his and Cris' rough-hewn vocal harmonies. The trio's dynamic interaction is further reflected in their adrenaline-charged live shows, which are prone to induce delirious sonic highs.
Boston based quintet The Sterns exemplify the knack for masterful song craft, strapping studio work ethic and a get-in-the-van-and-go DIY mentality. Sinners Stick Together released nationally on March 13th, 2007 by Boston’s Omnirox Entertainment, showcases The Sterns' deft lyrical turn of phrase and sonic anglophilia, melding the best elements of The Kinks, The Clash, Belle and Sebastian and The Smiths.
Sinners Stick Together is the ambitious follow up to 2005’s Say Goodbye to the Camera. This self-released debut brought critical accolades and a supporting slot with Nightmare of You, Hard-Fi, The Romantics and the English Beat, in addition to cracking the CMJ Top 200 album chart. The Sterns supported their album with a string of raucous live shows before returning to recording in December 2005.
Swale has found a way to extract and express the chaotic elements of peacefulness through unexpected orchestrations of drum, guitar, piano, prepared noise, and voice. When main songwriters and partners Eric Olsen and Amanda Gustafson sing together, they create a complex voice that tangibly entwines weary raggedness with wide-eyed innocence.
When performing live, all three members share the front of the stage, set up virtually on top of one another, a collective huddle centered around the untiring engine that is drummer/songwriter Jeremy Frederick. Their textured and manipulated sound, culminating in puissant highs as well as staggering moments of tranquility, makes watching this band nothing short of entrancing.
Swale has had the honor of performing with My Morning Jacket, Lou Barlow, Kayo Dot, Sam Prekop, Sally Timms, Mike Watt and the Secondmen, Time of Orchids, Rebirth Brass Band, The Bears, Bob Mould, The National, Missy Bly, James Kochalka Superstar, Cex, Mendoza Line, The Cush, Akrasia, Video Pigeon, The Horse, The Middle Eight, Reorder Narcotic, Ryan Power Trio, The Jazz Guys, James Yorkston, Charles Dead or Alive, The Smittens, Dialogue for Three, The Black Sea Quartet, and many more talented artists. Swale will be releasing their first full length album, A Small Arrival, in 2007. They currently have two EPs: Verdigris (2004) and Waterlanding (2007).
