The Mo' Funk Orchestra is a seven piece ensemble from Burlington, VT that plays classic funk, soul, and rock covers as well as a developing repertoire of original compositions. With set lists running the gamut from Herbie Hancock and the Meters to Billy Preston, John Scofield and the Van Morrison, everyone is sure to get down. As Samuel L. once said,"That's my bad MoFO!"
ROKU is a seven-piece rock bending jazz ensemble based in Burlington, VT. Since their formation in 2004 the group has gone through numerous personnel changes. Under the direction of bass player/composer Mr. Russ Flynn the group eventually developed into what it is today. ROKU focuses on fusing the sounds of rock and jazz into an accessible and more modern form.
Today ROKU's musicians come from many different idioms, training programs and schools of improvisation. On their quest to play the music of their hearts and souls (a music of the 21st Century) ROKU has utilized these differences. Instead of sounding out of sync with each other the group's music is like a completed puzzle where different types of sounds interlock forming a magnificent image.
Mango Jam has been described as, "one of Vermont's leading bands". They've been a popular presence on the scene for about fifteen years. This band draws its inspiration from the music of South Louisiana and the Caribbean incorporating Zydeco, Cajun, New Orleans R&B and Mardi Gras songs along with Ska and Reggae.
The Sepia Tones are a recently formed band out of the University of Vermont. Each member is a current student within the music department. Although new to the scene, The Sepia Tones have quickly become popular on the University of Vermont's campus performing a repertoire that ranges from a straight jazz, blues, funk, and originals. With the idea of resorting back to a nostalgic sound influenced by many classic artists, their name refers to an old time photograph as if it were taken out of the past. Brian Reid takes care of the drums; Samuél Lopez-Barrantes plays keyboard and sings; Aaron Lopez-Barrantes plays the guitar and sings; McCrae Hathaway plays the bass; and last but not least Brendan Dempsey plays the Saxophone. They are quickly getting in the mix in the Burlington scene, and look forward to continue playing out.
