JJ Grey and his band MOFRO exude rocking, funky, melodic, front porch realism in every song they play. Grey comes from a long tradition of Southern storytellers, and his songs oftentimes use the loss of his natural surroundings and the marginalization of the Southern culture he grew up in as a metaphor for universal truths. The band delivers his material with brilliant musicianship, resulting in music that is thought provoking, rhythmically dynamic and texturally mesmerizing.

From somewhere near the heart of Addison County come the Dirtminers. Frontman Raph Worrick specializes in character-driven songwriting that veers from dark nostaglia to outright rocking, in a range of styles that led Seven Days to praise his "quirky, riff-laden pop" and smother.net to remark on the "extraordinary conjuring of dead Southern gospel spirits that raised church roofs when they weren't drinking away their liver in the local dive bar." Backing him up are a crack team of musicians: Matt Rogalsky, Ron Rost, Michael Corn and Jeff LaBossiere. The band released its second cd American Typewriter in 2007 and are currently in preproduction for a third album.
