Part of the ninth generation Divoll homestead, Rockinghill Farm is still used for tillage and is in the heart of 500+ acres remaining in the family, consisting of the original farmhouse and several barns, including the one being used for the concert. Enjoy a locally-grown, buffet-style dinner prior to the show. Separate dinner tickets are $20.
Anais Mitchell returns to Vermont for her first state-wide tour since the acclaimed Hadestown appearances. These four intimate shows are hosted in working barns in the four corners of the state and feature specially prepared farm-to-table dinners. Special guest and long-time collaborator Michael Chorney accompanies Mitchell for these uniquely Vermont concerts.
For Anais Mitchell, growing up on a farm in Addison County, the barn wasn't just a place for chores. "We loved to hang out in there. There was a little observation room in the sheep barn where we would spend the night during lambing season, and we could escape there anytime to read or write. In the summer, after we'd brought in hay, sometimes we'd sleep out in the hay barn. A barn is a magical place to hang out."
The Vermont Barnstorming Tour sees Mitchell hanging out in barns again in a unique synthesis of Anais’ story-rich songs, the Vermont landscape that inspires them, and the people who call this state their home. The tour is an invitation to gather together in an unusual setting, a celebration of friends and neighbors as well as of the harvest season and the delicious abundance of produce grown by our local farmers.
Vermonters have always been forward-thinking when it comes to organic farming and localvore culture, but local farms are still feeling the effects of last year’s catastrophic encounter with Tropical Storm Irene. As a gesture of support, each appearance will take place on a working farm and feature a farm-to-table dinner, a portion of the proceeds of which will go to benefit the Vermont Local Food & Farms Fund, an extension of the Vermont Community Foundation. The Fund’s mission is to support both the immediate needs and long-term strategies of nonprofits that are working to build a creative, sustainable food system in Vermont.
